Francesca Comencini, as other Italian women filmmakers like Marina Spada, Wilma Labate, Roberta Torre, Paola Randi, and Alice Rorhwacher, in the first decade of the new millennium, have directed films constructed upon female characters and set in urban spaces. In all of these filmmakers’ works, Italian cities, far from being mere film locations, shape the narration both visually and structurally.
